InScope, from the team behind SCOPE Art Show · at On the sand at Ocean Drive & 8th Street
A new fair from the team behind SCOPE: gallery pavilions, Feature Projects, talks and evening events on the sand at Ocean Drive and 8th Street.
InScope is the week's newest fair and its biggest unknown: worth a look if you are already at UNTITLED, four blocks north, but not yet one to plan a day around. It comes from the team behind SCOPE, the show the gallerist Alexis Hubshman founded in 2002. SCOPE's first Miami edition opened that December at the Townhouse Hotel; from 2013 it set up in pavilions on the sand along Ocean Drive, and its 24th Miami edition, last December at 801 Ocean Drive, brought more than 100 exhibitors from 18 countries. Hubshman now runs InScope with co-founder and CEO Matt Middleton and director Hayley River Smith, on the same stretch of beach at 8th Street.
The fair calls this a new format: alongside the gallery booths it adds talks, dinners, wellness and wealth programmes and evening parties, and its founding partners lean toward finance and lifestyle brands. The site covers more than 220,000 square feet, with four gallery pavilions and eight Feature Projects announced so far, large installations and murals by artists including Swoon, Alake Shilling and Jason Hackenwerth. Daytime events include The Art of Wealth and The Wellness Oasis; evenings bring Supper Club Miami and the Hypebeast HypeAwards. The fair expects more than 45,000 visitors in its first year.
The gallery list, floor plan and booth numbers had not been published when we checked on October 24, so we cannot yet say who is showing. Expect emerging contemporary art, the focus the team says it has held for 25 years. Give the gallery floor about two hours, longer if you stay for an event; early-bird day tickets are $60 until November 23, and special event times are still to be announced.
